the TOWN of
WESTPORT

Westport’s vibrant atmosphere and supportive recovery community offer grounding for young men – away from the triggers of home or larger city life.

Located 48 miles north of New York City, Westport, Connecticut is situated between the towns of Norwalk and Fairfield along Long Island Sound. The downtown area offers many employment opportunities map_westportfor our clients, with everything from one-of-a-kind shops to national retailers. Restaurants and eateries abound; and a thriving arts and cultural community offers art exhibitions, performances at venues such as Westport Country Playhouse and the Levitt Pavilion, a large library, churches and synagogues, and museums. Westport is also headquarters for many well-known companies in the investment management, manufacturing, media, advertising, marketing, food service, and venture capital industries.

Recovery Community

Most importantly, Westport supports a significant recovery community. With nearly fifty 12-step meetings each week in Westport — not to mention the surrounding communities of Southport, Fairfield, Wilton, Norwalk, Darien, and Weston — we are home to one of the strongest concentrations of 12-step recovery groups in Connecticut. Men’s meetings are numerous and represent every walk of life; from corporate CEOs to college students, Westport House clients have little difficulty finding their 12-Step meeting niche and sponsors to whom they can relate.

Transportation

Westport has two Metro North railroad stations, Westport (Saugatuck) and Greens Farms on the Metro-North Railroad’s New Haven line, which serves Grand Central Terminal in New York City and Union Station in New Haven. This line is shared with Amtrak and is part of the Northeast Corridor.

Recreation

Long Island Sound and the Saugatuck River offer a backdrop to many recreational activities for Westport House clients. The Longshore Complex has an 18 hole public golf course, three swimming pools, tennis courts, paddle tennis courts, the Longshore Sailing School, kayaking, a picnic area, bathing pavilion, and a boating marina. During the winter months, the tennis courts transform into a skating rink. Next door lies Compo Beach and Marina offering a skate park, beach-side softball and basketball courts, a concession stand and pavilion, bath houses with lockers, and picnic areas including grills, and acres of sandy beach. Westport’s other beaches are Old Mill, Burying Hill, Cockenoe Island Beach and the 300-acre Sherwood Island Beach and State Park.
