What We Do

At Westport House, residents learn the practical skills necessary to navigate the challenges of everyday living in recovery.

Young men in early recovery often envision life without drugs and alcohol as lacking excitement and adventure. The Westport House program is specifically designed to expose them to a different reality. A reality in which their expectations are often exceeded in ways they don’t anticipate.

Westport House acts as a recovery “guard rail”, keeping clients between the white lines while they experience the independence they desire with the built-in accountability and support they need.

The typical length of stay can vary from three months to over a year depending on the needs of the client. While each client’s timeline is different, the Westport House program is a true “meritocracy” – meaning that the more a client demonstrates his investment in and commitment to recovery, the more freedom and independence he will experience. We don’t count days at Westport House, we count goals and objectives met.

During the time we have, we will guide him through a process that, in most cases, will result in functional independence rooted in a solid program of recovery.

Sober Living or Extended Care:

Which one is right for you?

To help increase the probability for long-term recovery, Westport House offers two distinct levels of care for young men discharging from inpatient treatment: extended care and sober living.

Extended Care: Westport House Extended Care has been designed to support the recovery process for young adults as they transition from a higher level of care to sober living. We blend the transformational power of experiential activities, physical fitness & recreation, and 12-step immersion with traditional clinical services to establish a supportive environment in which clients can practice independent life-skill management and other recovery skills after they complete primary treatment. Once individualized goals and objectives have been met, the client will transition to our sober living environment. Typical length of stay: 30 – 90 days.

Sober Living: For clients who do not require the structure and support of extended care, our separate sober living environments might be the right choice after primary treatment. Sober living clients have access to all the integrated services of extended care without the initial oversight and structure. Clients can have their vehicles and return to work immediately. They may also receive home passes shortly after arriving.

The cost of sober living is approximately half of extended care, however, clients will be responsible for buying and preparing their own food, transportation, and any non-Westport House-related events.

Integrated Services

Westport House’s integrated services are designed to expose clients to activities, support systems, and like-minded individuals that reinforce the notion that sobriety can be fun and life will get better.

Westport House integrates a fully licensed and (JCAHO) accredited outpatient program where clients can receive up to 15 hours a week of clinical programming. Other services include two gym memberships, meals provided by in-house chef for the 1st ninety days, meditation classes, yoga, therapeutic massage, adventure trips, movies, sporting events, academic & employment support, transportation, and professional recovery coaching.

Over time, what emerges is a cohesive sober lifestyle built around relationships with others in recovery, emotional and physical health, academics, spirituality, and a desire to give back to those in need.
