We’re passionate about the mental health benefits of physical fitness and recreation; we believe they are essentials component of a fulfilling, recovery-focused lifestyle.
And it’s why we incorporate a variety of physical fitness and recreational activities including the Edge Fitness Center or Westport YMCA four to six days a week. In addition to the mental health benefits, the bonds and camaraderie that form through these shared experiences are often strong, meaningful, and long-lasting. After all, the relationships that we develop with others in recovery can support us for a lifetime.
It’s also about having fun! It may take time for young men in early recovery to have fun again, but they tend to find it where they least expect it.
Getting sober is a second chance at life, and many young men lose sight of who they are throughout their addiction. At Westport House, they’ll explore many opportunities in sobriety and find out what they are truly passionate about. Whether they enjoy art, sports, music, physical fitness, or social activities, they’ll find that there are healthy ways of experiencing fun without drugs and alcohol.
